Latest News on Johnson & Johnson McNeil Infant TYLENOL® Recall

Once again Johnson & Johnson's McNeil Consumer Healthcare (“McNeil") is recalling 574,000 bottles of Infants' TYLENOL® Oral Suspension in the 1oz Grape flavor at retail and wholesale levels in the United States.  The latest news on the voluntary recall is that 7 lots (see full product list below) of  Infants' TYLENOL® are being recalled because of a small number of complaints about difficulty with dosing.  I remember when my girls were babies that my hubby and I would have questions about how much to give the them.  It seems that parents are still having difficulty figuring out the correct dosages even though McNeil's new SimpleMeasure™ dosing system was supposed to eliminate any questions.

Well unfortunately, the dosing system has flaws just like the old bottles did and the flow restrictor is getting pushed down into the bottle making it difficult to properly dose.

"McNeil is initiating this voluntary recall as a precaution after receiving a small number of complaints from consumers who reported difficulty using the Infants' TYLENOL® SimpleMeasure™ dosing system.  SimpleMeasure™ includes a dosing syringe, which a parent or caregiver inserts into a protective cover, or “flow restrictor,” at the top of the bottle to measure the proper dose.  In some cases, the flow restrictor was pushed into the bottle when inserting the syringe.  Children's TYLENOL® products are intended for children two years of age and older and remain available." - McNeil website

There haven't been any adverse events associated with the recall and it seems exceedingly unlikely that there would.  Consumers can continue to use Infants' TYLENOL® as long as the flow restrictor at the top of the bottle stays in place.  If the flow restrictor gets pushed into the bottle, parents and caregivers should not use the medicine.

Consumers can request a refund by visiting  www.tylenol.com or contacting McNeil at 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time; Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time).  Parents and caregivers can also check out this message from McNeil for additional information and click the button below for the latest news on the recall.
