CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS PREPARE TO VOTE ON FIRST STATEWIDE PLASTIC BAG BAN ...Should the Government be Able to Force this on Us?

100 BAG MONSTERS TAKE TO THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO ON THURSDAY AS CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS PREPARE TO VOTE ON FIRST STATEWIDE PLASTIC BAG BAN...THEN IT'S ON TO YOUR STATE!  IS THIS RIGHT?

Rally to include 100 bag monsters and 10 major California-based organizations in support of the effort led by one bag monster-clad man 

Folks even if you are not in the Bay area, please keep an eye out for info on this vote.  The hoopla surrounding this potential historic vote with the Bag Monsters is PR at it's best and citizen love for green at it most effective, but is it the place of the government to force this on consumers?  I know there are people who say that government involvement in telling people what they HAVE to do for the green effort is not the direction we need to go.  How do you feel?  Should the government be allowed to force us to use reusable bags or is that just something we should do on our own without government?  If it becomes law in California, it could become law in your state next.  Are you cool with that?  Leave a comment below or Tweet me @EnviroBooty and give me your 411!!

WHAT:   
This Thursday, Aug. 12, 100 bag monsters, 50,000 plastic bags and upwards of 10 local organizations in support of a statewide ban on plastic bags will take to the streets of San Francisco’s Ghirardelli Square. They plan to rally in support of the potential for California to make history with the first statewide plastic bag ban, which is scheduled to be voted on two days later by the California State Legislature, on Aug. 14.   

The citizen bag monsters – who will each be wearing 500 plastic bags representing the number of plastic bags a typical individual uses in one year – will be led by Andy Keller, an entrepreneur, passionate plastic bag ban supporter and the inventor of the bag monster costumes, which have been spotted at plastic bag ban rallies across the country.

The press conference will involve 10 major California-based organizations including Environment California, Heal the Bay, Surfrider, Californians Against Waste,  Plastic Pollution Coalition, Save the Bay, Ocean Health and Clean Water Action, as well as Californians who support the issue, and people who are visually intrigued by the sight of 100 bag monsters taking to the streets.

Following the march and press conference, Keller plans to set off on a national journey, invading 15 cities across the country that are considering implementing bag ban legislation. Clad as the bag monster and riding across the cross country on a three-wheeled Spyder motorcycle, Keller will host and participate in events in each city, including installation of a sea of 100 bag monster costumes taking up around 1,000 square feet of space.

These are the BagMonsters in my car!  I counted and I have 17  bags in 5 styles that I use but my fav is my EnviTote!  It is easy on  my back, perfect for the Farmer's Market and has an adjustable strap with handles on the side.  The bag boys love this one too!!

The Bag Monster March will begin at Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, Calif., winding through the Aquatic Park to Fisherman’s Warf and return back up Larkin Street to Ghirardelli Square’s West Plaza for the press conference
