It's Monday and It's Time to Live a Little - One Easy Step to Conquer Your Fear

I love taking beautiful cloud pics when I fly now

What are you afraid of?

Are you afraid of the dark?  Or are you afraid of the truth or of never being with the one you love?  Sometimes it seems silly to be afraid, but yet we all have worries or insecurities that grip us with fear and won't let go until we deal with them.  For me it is a fear of flying that has, more than once, kept me from getting the things I want out of life.  Yet today I am boarding another plane and, once again, I will have to overcome my fear to get to where I want to be and Live a Little.
"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear." ~ Mark Twain

I was afraid.

I was never afraid of flying before I was a mother.   In fact, I wasn't really afraid of anything before I became a mother.  My fearlessness was a part of who I imagined myself to be.  But once I had my first daughter, my life obviously changed in many ways but fear seemed to take hold of me like never before.  I was afraid my firstborn would die of crib death (even though she slept right beside me).  I was afraid I wouldn't make enough milk to feed her because God forgot to bless me with a big bosom.  I was even afraid that if I went back to work, she would suffer irreparable harm.

All of those fears became meaningless the longer I was a mother but the one fear that did not resolve itself, was my fear of flying.  From 1997 to 2009, I managed to not have to get on an airplane.  But when I needed to go to Las Vegas for a social media convention a few years ago, I had to somehow conquer my fear and get on a plane for a very long trip from Orlando to Vegas.
"Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it." ~ Bill Cosby

How did I conquer my fear with one easy step?

I didn't conquer my fear, I am still deathly afraid of flying.  I simply turned my fearful feelings into powerful action and I just got on the damn plane.  I cried a little, I prayed a little but most of all, I lived a little and had the best time personally and professionally in Vegas.

So what's the takeaway for you and your life?

If you want to conquer your fear, just flipping do it already.  There is no easy solution to conquering your fear other than immersing yourself in it and turning that fear into powerful action.  It feels uncomfortable at first but once you just do it (whatever your "it" is), you will soar just like me.  It is almost like an endorphin rush for me when I step off of a plane and I literally feel capable of anything.

Are you ready to Live a Little and conquer your fear?
If you think my advice sounds too simplistic, maybe you aren't ready to live your life to the fullest.  For me, the time came when the life that was waiting for me to revel in, outweighed my perceived risks.
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.  You must do the thing you think you cannot do. " ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

What are you waiting for?  Just do it and Live a Little.
