How Facebook Is Going Green and Taking Consumers Along for the Ride. Facebook Partners with Opower and the NRDC to Offer Home Energy Efficiency App in 2012
Who knew Facebook was so into green? Did you? Well soon, the entire world will know as they announced Monday that they are going green with a new Energy Efficiency App to help consumers become more energy efficient. Slated for release in 2012, the new, green energy app is a collaboration of Opower's existing technology as a home energy management software company and the NRDC's (National Research Defense Council) considerable clout in the green space. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
I am thinking the new Facebook Energy Efficiency App is a huge public relations push for Facebook. Remember how Greenpeace attacked Facebook for its use of nuclear power? Well folks, like I tell my kids, "It is what it is." It doesn't really matter what the reasoning is behind the new Facebook green energy app, there are still 800 million users who will be exposed to a new way of thinking about their home energy use - and you gotta love that.
The 2012 green living Facebook Energy Efficiency App will offer creative ways for consumers to learn about saving energy |
"With more than 800 million participants using Facebook, people have discovered that the platform can be used as a powerful tool for positive change," explains Mary Scott Lynn, director of corporate social responsibility for Sun Microsystems and Facebook Sustainability leader. "Facebook makes our own energy efficiency a top priority, and we hope to inspire a grand conversation about energy efficiency among the millions of people who use the service every day."
