Tune In and Fulfill Your Destiny...what are you meant to do?

Millions of Women from water.org on Vimeo.

I swear to the lord above if I do not get some sleep tonight I am going to just lose my freakin' mind.  You see it's not that I have insomnia, I just have so much to do every minute of the day.  Can you relate?  My days, like I yours may be, are filled with the kid gig, making the hubby happy, work and well just too much.  But when I look around, it is hard not to feel so totally blessed with the life my family has.

Certainly, we are not
so blessed financially as we were in the past, but we have so many things that most of the world does not.  When I shower in the morning, do laundry in my own home or fill a glass with fresh, clean water, I literally thank God.  Okay so not every single time do I literally thank God, but almost always the thought flashes through my mind how different life would be for me without water.

Women can't do anything from water.org on Vimeo.

Hmmm, wow, huh? Scan on...
  • 3.575 million people die each year from water-related disease.
  • 43% of water-related deaths are due to diarrhea.
  • 84% of water-related deaths are in children ages 0 – 14.
  • 98% of water-related deaths occur in the developing world.
  • 884 million people, lack access to safe water supplies, approximately one in eight people.
  • The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.
  • At any given time, half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from a water-related disease.
  • Less than 1% of the world’s fresh water (or about 0.007% of all water on earth) is readily accessible for direct human use.
  • An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than the typical person living in a developing country slum uses in a whole day.
  • About a third of people without access to an improved water source live on less than $1 a day. More than two thirds of people without an improved water source live on less than $2 a day.
  • Poor people living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more per liter of water than wealthy people living in the same city.
  • Without food a person can live for weeks, but without water you can expect to live only a few days.
  • The daily requirement for sanitation, bathing, and cooking needs, as well as for assuring survival, is about 13.2 gallons per person.
  • Over 50 percent of all water projects fail and less than five percent of projects are visited, and far less than one percent have any longer-term monitoring.
So here's the rub.  I know you are bombarded with "PLEASE HELP" messages online constantly.  Please though, don't get so overwhelmed that you just tune out.  Scan what you can and when a certain topic interests you, pulls on your heart strings or just pisses you off so badly that you need to act...then tune in and make something happen.  Go where your passions lead you and donate your time, your voice or your money.

If this issue pulls at you, then please by all means go to Water.org and learn more...then let the info sit on your mind, share it with others or share your hard earned cash.  When you act, it matters.  You will be fulfilling a part of your destiny.

  1. Oh its so much a dismay that water is in such a scarce amount... eye opening facts, but it seems this situation will agrevate in coming years instead of any improvement... world leaders and nations should take considerate steps for curbind this problem..

  2. There is so much to be done and it seems so little is getting accomplished. We cannot rely on governments to fix our problems...Water.org is a great organization who is taking the reigns on alleviating this problem.
