What Should You Know About Artificial Sweeteners and How to Find a Safe Sweetener?

It is no secret that I  had an awful experience with the artificial sweetener aspartame.  The experience was really what pushed me to develop Environmental Health-Wellness-Beauty and Environmental Booty.  I never imagined that the FDA and our government would allow such a harmful product such as aspartame to be available to consumers.

I am a smart cookie.  Yet if you ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you I always have a hard time understanding how people can just do things that are so wrong.  What the FDA and the manufacturer of aspartame, Ajinomoto, have done to us with this artificial sweetener is so wrong.  Consumers are starting to
realize that aspartame is not a safe sweetener. In British Columbia, parents were successful in getting aspartame and other sweeteners banned from schools.
Despite the findings by Health Canada that artificial sweeteners are safe, parents in B.C. decided to play it safe and just say no.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Symptoms attributed to Aspartame in complaints submitted to the FDA show headaches as the highest complaint followed by dizziness. The FDA has stated that aspartame is the most complained about substance in their history.  You can see information on FDA complaints and information on aspartame from the CDC in a (very long but) eye opening report  HERE.

Anyhoo...I came across a really great, short quiz about aspartame, from the Detroit Free Press, that you can check out HERE.  This will help you decide if you want to take that next drink of your diet cola. Cheers!

You should totally shoot over to our Environmental Booty OpenSky Shop and check out the safe and  natural sweetener I use now called Stevia Plus.  It combines the extract of the stevia leaf (a mint plant) with a prebiotic nutritional fiber which, unlike many artificial sweeteners like Splenda, actually nourishes
the friendly bacteria (lactobacillus & bifidobacteria) in the intestines while supporting gastrointestinal health.  Plus you can use it in cooking, freezing and in hot or cold drinks...Cheers!
