7-8-2010 UPDATE: ADDITIONAL RECALLS ANNOUNCED
Oh I bet it is fun over at McNeil Consumer Healthcare about now. I cannot imagine the tension, depression and worry over their current recall of children and infant's Motrin, Tylenol, Zyrtec and Benadryl. Supposedly the medications are voluntarily being recalled because they do not meet McNeil's quality standards and not because of any worry over adverse reactions. I say that sounds like a lot of trouble and lost profit over a little quality control issue. I certainly would follow their advice and not give any of the following products to my kids that I had in my home.
For up to the minute information and a complete listing of the recalled medications, please visit the McNeil Product recall Site.
It is crazy to me just how far reaching this recall is. These products were manufactured in the US but distributed not only in the US but also in Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait.
I say McNeil should be applauded in doing this recall and consumers should be thankful for their concern over the safety of those who have come to trust them. I also am very thankful that I always save a few bucks and buy generic. Generic infant and children's medications are not included in any product recalls...yet.
