How to Be Green? Ditch Earth Day

Earth as Art- Florida Everglades. Description: Spanning the southern tip of the Florida Peninsula and most of Florida Bay, Everglades National Park is the only subtropical preserve in North America. It is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles exist side by side.

Do We Really Need Earth Day Anymore?

This past Monday, Earth Day 2013, I was left with a feeling of, well, quite frankly, sadness in my heart.  What used to be one of my favorite days of the year, this year turned into a stream of emails into my inbox from the likes of Staples, American Eagle and too many PR firms to mention all touting their sales and promotions for Earth Day.  Now while I am a capitalist at heart and do not begrudge those trying to make a buck (believe me), this year it somehow left a bad taste in my mouth.

In all honesty haven't we moved beyond Earth Day and on to a higher level of consciousness which dictates more of a daily approach to environmental stewardship.  I am trying so hard not to say that Earth Day is every day because it is so cliche, but frankly that is the truth.  Somehow, setting aside one day a year to remind us to take care of our planet seems unbefitting to the greatness that is mother nature.

Then again, I have never been a fan of Mother's Day either as it seems to me to be just another day to look forward to a day that turns out to be filled with the same responsibility, worry and love of every other day of the year.  Shouldn't every day be Mother's Day?

My hope for us all is that we can look beyond the "necessity" of Earth Day and its copious amount of marketing and move into living our daily lives in ways that enhance, protect and cherish that which is so precious to us all...our health and the health of our planet.

Our future depends on our knowledge and actions. What choices will you make today that will change your health and the health of our world tomorrow? Together we CAN find the path that will lead us to a greener, healthier future and it will not be done by celebrating one, special day a year. It will be done by celebrating the collective small, and not so small, green living victories that we each accomplish 24/7/365.

P.S.- People always ask me where I get my organic food and personal care products and I love to tell them about The Green PolkaDot Box! Backed by the Organic Consumer's Association and EnvironmentalBooty.com, you can easily buy NonGMO organic groceries, including Harvest Fresh Organic produce, at wholesale pricing online.  It's like a Sam's club but focused on products for green, healthy living!
