Google My Business is Now Google Business Profile...Here's What You Need to Know!

Change is scary, we get that!

So, if the announcement that what was once known as Google My Business, is now the equally as beneficial "Google Business Profile", spooked you a little bit, we know how you feel!

Now, for those who aren't familiar with the platform in the first place, the formerly known Google My Business has huge benefits, such as targeting clients using geo profiling, getting reviews, and learning more about your business' potential.

Though this all might be a lot to take in, don't worry.

In this blog post, we'll be breaking down why Google changed the name of Google My Business to Google Business Profile, what Google's Business Profile Manager is used for, and why every business needs one.

Why Change The Name of Google My Business to Google Business Profile?

So, why change something if there was nothing wrong, to begin with?

Google says that it was to "keep things simple" and we know what that means. We have worked with many clients who had no idea how to even find their Google My Business profile let alone how to get it verified.

When you set up and eventually get familiar with your Google Business Profile, you will be able to reap all of the benefits.

For example, the new name also comes with the ability to simply search "my business" in the Google search and be able to access your Business Profile Manager. As you will now be able to use Google Maps and Search, you will no longer need to use the app in order to edit information or post on your profile. You will be able to edit and control your profile from the browser, or in the app form.

Make a note though, Google plans on retiring the Google My Business app sometime in 2022.

Other Important Things to Know

Now that you have a little bit of background on why Google My Business changed its name to Google Business Profile, here's how to utilize these changes for your business' benefit.

In your Google Business Profile Manager, one of the simplest things you can do is to control and edit the information people see about your business. This can include location, store hours, videos, photos, and more, with photos being one of the most important. This is because when people are looking at images for your brand on Google, yours are the ones they are seeing first.

Since you're given the ability to control these first impressions, do it right! Cultivate the best possible introduction. You can make sure you're doing so using the different settings on Business Profile Manager that can allow you to see if you're getting viewed by customers, and what to do to fix if you're not.

You can get your business the recognition it deserves through Business Profile Manager, so why shouldn't you?
