Great Green Vacations: Exploring the Continental Divide Trail
If you are planning a vacation in North America and want to make some Eco-friendly, greener choices, explore the Montana wilderness or the Rockies on the Colorado Trail along the Continental Divide. In the wilderness areas of Montana you even have the option to volunteer and help repair trails. These volunteer green vacation sites allow you to stay as little as a day, a week or longer if you wish. Volunteers of all ages and lifestyles, from environmental activists to students who attend the Ontario School of Business, are accepted and the help is always appreciated.
You can also help maintain the trails on the Colorado Trail, where each summer there are volunteer groups that set out to clean and clear the trail by moving fallen trees, and repairing signs and trail markers. There are weekend volunteer trips or week-long trips available.
Hey, but don't get the idea that volunteer vacations are all work and no play. In these beautiful settings you can go camping and there are tons of activities for you and your family to enjoy. If you love the great outdoors, the hiking and spectacular scenery along these mountainous and wilderness areas, the Eco-memories you create will be ingrained in your mind forever.
The Rockies are also accessible to Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park. I will never forget the camping trip my family took when I was just 7 years old to Yellowstone National Park; what I saw, felt and experienced, helped make me into the green girl I am today! There are approximately 1,200 campsites throughout Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Outdoor activities such as backpacking, hiking, rafting, biking, and fishing activities are available in the parks. If you would enjoy a few days that do not involve camping, there are many lodges and hotels in and near the park areas, too.
If you think green for your vacations, not only will you enjoy a vacation from the everyday stress of work and life, you will be able to make a valuable contribution to the environment or get in touch with the beauty of nature around us. You will get to spend quality time with your children and they will learn important lessons about what’s involved in being truly responsible for the environment. Once they see the beauty of the land, like me, your kids will begin to appreciate the beauty of nature and the importance of living a greener lifestyle.
