5 Tips to Save Fuel This Summer

Looking for Ways to Save Fuel?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation accounted for 26 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2014, making it the second largest contributor behind the electricity sector. Now I would bet, that just like me, you are always going around your house turning off lights to save money and energy.  We know this decreases our greenhouse gas emissions and makes a difference to not only our electric bill, but our planet as well. And just like me, I also would bet that you work hard to save fuel.

Greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles are dependent on three factors: the vehicle, the fuel and the driver. The driver portion holds potential for substantial emission reductions at minimal cost, but is often overlooked.

Something to Cheer About! How the 2013 Super Bowl Is Leaving a Smaller Footprint

How Super Bowl 2013 Is Treading Softly

I love the Super Bowl don't you?  I still have no idea what is going on down on the field, but it sure is fun to celebrate the day!  The food, the drinks, the excitement of the game, it's all good right?  Well obviously, a huge amount of energy is used for big events like the Super Bowl, and that means huge carbon emissions.  Well this year, as tens of thousands of people travel to attend the event, and as hotels, stadiums and other facilities ramp up their energy use to accommodate the crowds, everyone will have the chance to leave a smaller footprint.

Ford C-Max Energi Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Kicks the Prius and Volt to the Curb

C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is hot and beats the Prius and Volt in range
No Range Anxiety with Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)

Just as more American consumers than ever are ready to buy more energy efficient rides, it looks like the new Ford C-Max Energi Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is going to kick the Toyota Prius and Chevy Volt to the Curb.  Last week Ford announced that the new C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is expected to achieve more than 20 miles of electric-only range - nearly double the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid and the Prius plug-in- and is expected to travel up to 550 miles on a single tank of gas, exceeding the range of both the Prius PHEV (540 mi) and the Volt (379 mi).

Drivers of the C-MAX Energi could travel round-trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas or from Detroit to New York City on a single tank. Topping it off, C-MAX Energi delivers fuel economy that is the equivalent of 95 miles per gallon (MPGe) combined city/highway.

Dutch Company Pal-V Creates Flying Car of My Dreams! The Future of Transportation is Here but Just How Green is this Flying Machine?

The Dutch government is already preparing for the Pal-V One

When I was a child, the one thing I wanted to do more than anything was fly.  You know, like a bird.  Now I have issues with flying and certainly do not enjoy it.  Still, I have a very vivid dream life and a recurring dream that I experience, aside from some pretty amazing dreams that rival E.L. James' Fifty Shades series - but that's another post, is that I am flying in a car.  I also go into the ocean in a car in my dreams and float around but the flying bird dream just got pretty real.

Meet the Pal-V One, the flying car of my dreams...the future of transportation is here but just how green is this flying machine?

Wordless Wednesday 2-29-12 Celebrate the Lushness of The Earth in The Land Pavilion at Epcot

Wordless Wednesday is a day for me to share a photo from a moment in time in my green living life with you with just a few words...
CeCe and me at Epcot

When I was in college I worked at Epcot during the summers in The Land Pavilion.  I of course loved it (except for when people came up and unexpectedly kissed me or otherwise showed me affection...but that's another story) because I was in my element.  Not that I am an outdoorsy type girl, but I really love being surrounded by positive images of the earth and being reminded of its lushness and fertility.  Last week I got to go back to The Land at Epcot with my daughter's APEX class and once again I loved it.

Don't Stress When You Fly, Do Yoga! San Francisco Goes Even Greener as Airport Opens First Ever Yoga Room

The folks in San Fransisco just keep getting greener every day.  Now their airport has a yoga room to help passengers de-stress

I have done some pretty off the wall things at the airport because of my fear of flying.  There was the time when I was barely legal and so scared to fly that I had 2 Long Island Iced Teas in 15 minutes and got kicked off of the plane until I sobered up.  Then there was the time that I sat in an airport restaurant bawling like a baby because I was flipping out at the thought of getting on the plane.  Although I am much better at flying these days, the next time I am passing through terminal 2 at the San Francisco Airport (SFO), I will most certainly take a few minutes to relax and unwind in the first ever of its kind, brand new Yoga Room.

How to Travel Green? 5 Easy Ways to Green Your Overseas Trip to Europe

Nestled in a valley wide and green, between sea and mountains,  Graine & Ficelle offers its natural, grown in the organic garden goodness, as well as educational workshops, tours of the farm, birthday parties, a bed and breakfast, cooking classes and more...all to the delight of children and their parents.
  1. Green Your Travel with a Eurail Global Pass - If you want to travel in the most eco-friendly way possible throughout 22 countries in Europe, Eurail is the way to go.
  2. Take an Organic Cooking Class in the Organic Food Capital of Europe - Germany has long been one of the largest producers, as well as one of the biggest markets, for organic food products in the world. At KETAO, in Frankfurt, Germany, the focus is on creativity, technique and taste accompanied by loads of fun and music.
  3. Make a stop in Italy, the main producer and exporter of organic wine in Europe, for a wine tasting - Stay for a few hours or linger for days at "La Spinosa".  Find the ultimate in peace and tranquility at this organic winery as you are encouraged to kind of "shut down" in what is known as the "Valley of Silence".  I could use some of that right about now.
  4. Vacation on an Organic Vegetable Farm in The French Riviera - Book a stay at an eco bed & breakfast in the Riviera with a spectacular view of the valley and the sea. Perfectly situated in the region of Vence at the foot of the Baou of St Jeannet you will find “Graine & Ficelle”.  Don't blame me if you never want to come back to the States.
  5. Reduce Your Waste - Just because you are traveling overseas, don't think it means you have to ditch your reusable water bottle!  Bring your favorite stainless steel, BPA free water bottle with you in your carry on or pack it in your luggage.  After you pass through security at the airport, you can fill your bottle and never buy a "plastic" (PET), single use water bottle while on your trip.

Sign Up Today to Get First Dibs on the 2012 Green Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid.  Toyota Friend Social Networking Optional...Maybe
This morning, as I was taking my kids to school hoping my tire would not totally fall apart...

Yup, those are two wires sticking out of my tire.
we pulled up behind an adorable, and dare I say slightly beefy, little Prius.  Now that car is totally not practical for me right now, but I really think Toyota's green living 2012 Plug-in Prius Hybrid is the bees knees.  The only little problem with the 2012 Prius is that the price point has not been set yet.  I have been able to figure out that Toyota is trying to get the price down before the Spring release of the 2012.
