Is Buying Organic Food Worth It or Not?

So Seriously, Is Organic Worth It or Not?

I get asked all the time whether it is "worth it or not" to go organic and I always like to reply to the question in three simple and easy to understand answers.
  1. A National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH) study posted in Environmental Health Perspectives back in 2006, demonstrated that when scientists substituted children’s conventional diets with organic food items for 5 consecutive days, the median urinary concentrations of pesticides decreased to the non-detect levels immediately after the introduction of organic diets and remained non-detectable until the conventional diets were reintroduced.
  2. Once when I was in a rush and did not have time to run into the market for organic milk, I picked up non-organic at CVS. I poured a glass for my youngest daughter the next morning with only a pang of guilt which I quieted with the meme that she would not even notice the difference.  I was wrong. Before even fully swallowing the milk, she dropped the glass down onto the table with a grimace on her face and exclaimed, "What IS this?"  Clearly, there is a taste difference between organic and conventional in not only the milk and meat, but also in the fruits and vegetables.
  3. You don't have to worry about whether or not you can afford organics or where to buy them.  Shop like I do at Green PolkaDot Box  and save up to 60% on NonGMO, organic foods, drinks and more and make your life easy and stay on budget.  It's easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
So you tell me, is it worth it or not?

Weak Economy Claims Royal, Green Victim

Bad Economy Not Picky in Choosing It's Green Victims

As reported in Reuters, it seems that the bad economy is not picky when it comes to those it wreaks havoc upon.  Even royalty is not immune to financial woes when it comes to their green business ventures.

Prince Charles, environmentalist and heir to the throne of England has closed his 8 year old organic vegetable store due to falling trade and rising prices.

His store aptly named, The Veg Shed, sold organic vegetables and fruit freshly grown on the his Duchy Home Farm and became known for selling edible but oddly shaped organic produce that would normally be rejected by supermarkets.

A spokeswoman for Prince Charles said the store closed as it was no longer financially viable as it failed to make a profit but shoppers can still order online.

"The Veg Shed has closed, basically in response to consumer trends, a preference for shopping remotely," a spokeswoman from Clarence House, the prince's official London residence, told Reuters.

I can totally relate to this business model as I shop online and am a Founding Member of the Green PolkaDot Box, an online grocer that offers huge discounts on organics and nonGMO foods and products.

Live A Little - Food Glorious Food, Let's Make it Fun Again!

Food Shouldn't Be Laborious, It Should Be Glorious!
There seems to be a lot of talk these days about "clean" food and eating right.  Consumers are tired of chemicals being passed off as food.  We want real food that makes us feel good and keeps us healthy right??  BUT...it has to taste terrific and I think it should be fun!!  Making a meal shouldn't be all about what you HAVE to do for your family or how many calories you are counting.  Living a fabulous lifestyle includes eating foods that just simply make you feel satisfied and happy right?

Food Is Just One More Creative Way To Live Life to It's Fullest
I have never been a great cook.  I can bake up a storm - sometimes - but I never really knew what I was doing so I kind of stuck to the same old stuff.  These days, I have realized that cooking is fun.  I don't even need a recipe or a plan and I can bring my kids into it and have a lot of fun!

3 Ways to Make Food Fun Again
I remember when I was a kid, I loved food and enjoyed easting all of my favorite things.  As an adult, it can be easy to make food our enemy instead of the pleasurable necessity it should be.  I want you to get excited about food again and stop thinking of it as our enemy.
  1. Fix Your Favorite Foods from Childhood - Whether it was your mom's fabulous goulash or that amazing chocolate cake from the little shop that closed long ago, it is time to recreate and share those glorious and delicious memories with healthy organic ingredients
  2. Take One Day a Week or More to Just Enjoy Your Food and Eat What You Like - I take each weekend as my time to stop counting calories and just eat what I enjoy.  It is very satisfying and frankly fun to look forward to the weekends when I know my taste buds will be treated to almost anything they desire.
  3. Make Food Shopping a Joy not a Chore! - Part of making food fun again means dealing with the not so fun food shopping chore. I do most of my shopping online at the Green PolkaDot Box and it is inexpensive, guaranteed nonGMO (no genetically modified organisms) and I can do it at any time of day or night.  I love it so much I am a Founding Trust Member!  I have found tons of great (and yes healthy) finds I would never have had the time to uncover if I was shopping on a time crunch in a place like Whole Foods with my kids!
Enjoy what you like and share that good food feeling with your family.  Food should be fun and delicious.  Let's start enjoying it again. You with me??

Why Whole Foods Isn't Who You Think They Are and What You Can Do About It

We All Love Whole Foods Right?
I have never been a fan of Whole Foods.  Actually, scratch that.  I was a fan of Whole Foods until they blocked me on Twitter in 2009 when I tried to follow them.  Perhaps they thought that my username, @EnviroBooty, had to mean I was involved in some type of nefarious green going's on but whatever the case, they blocked me.  Call me thin skinned, it didn't sit well with me.

All of the negativity I had harbored inside about Whole Foods kind of found an outlet through my dismay at being blocked by them and their way of doing business just lost favor with me.

Why Won't Whole Foods Support Labeling of GMO Foods?
Now word comes that in addition to not supporting California's Proposition 37, which would require labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in our food, Whole Foods continues to sell GMO products in their stores without labeling them as such.

Want to Be Green and Save Green While Shopping? Here's How!

Want to Be Green and Save Green While Shopping?  It's Easy to Do and Here's How!

The other day, my friend Kim, with Gluten Free Booty, told me BIG LOTS had some of my favorite Paul Newman chocolate cookies for half what I have paid at Publix.  I don't frequent BIG LOTS because it is a little out of my way and I usually get all of my wholesale organic foods at Green PolkaDot Box, but I made a special trip just to see what the deal was with the organic cookies.

Why Go Green with Organics? New Report by Genetic Engineers Tells Why GMO Food is Bad for You

New Report by Genetic Engineers Gives New Urgency to The Green Living Way of Life - Organics More Important than Ever
New Report by Genetic Engineers Gives New Urgency to The Green Living Way of Life - Organics More Important than Ever

One of the things I always try to do here on Environmental Booty is to stay away from fear mongering and present scientific reports or evidence to help people live the green living way of life. When it comes to genetically modified organisms as foods (GMO), so many people are still asking,  "What is a GMO" when I think the real question they should be asking, "What are GMO doing to my body?".  Considering that over 90% of our corn in the USA is GMO, and that corn is in everything, it is pretty important to decipher the truth now and start the green lifestyle by simply easting organics.

Green PolkaDot Box vs. Vitacost.com for Guaranteed Low Prices on Non GMO Organic Foods?

I am a Founding Trust Member of the Green PolkaDot Box (GPDB) where I get my NonGMO organic foods for up to 60% off.  I really love the convenience of shopping online, I know I can trust that everything is free of genetically modified ingredients and the savings on green living products are awesome.   Still, lately I have been hearing ads on the radio for another low cost provider of healthy foods called Vitacost.com.  I started wondering if they had non-GMO organic foods at lower prices than the Green PolkaDot box and I got my answer last week in an email from our Founder, Rod Smith.

Stars Fall In Love with The Green PolkaDot Box but The Message Is...Healthy Eating Is Now Affordable for Everyone!

My favorite organic and natural foods online member savings club, The Green PolkaDot Box™ (GPDB),  gained some star powered, new fans last week.  Green stars like Penelope Ann Miller and Gil Birmingham from the Twilight movie gathered at the W Hotel, in Hollywood, CA. for an Oscar Celebration honoring the 84th Annual Academy Award Nominees and Presenters' diverse charitable causes.

The newly-launched, green living company shared their message at the star filled, charity event that healthy eating is affordable for everyone, from Hollywood stars to American families, through the Green PolkaDot Box.   For consumers nationwide, the ability of GPDB to offer their members the lowest prices, at up to a 60% discount, on organic, non-GMO, and natural foods and personal care products is truly a game changer.  You don't have to be a star, to be in this show!!
