How to Be Green? Get Top Dollar for E-Cycling Your Mobile Phone
![]() |
Post powered by Top Dollar Mobile |
According to the EPA, a great deal of what is labeled as “e-waste” is actually not waste at all. Actually most of the e-waste is electronic parts or equipment that could be easily marketed for reuse or recycled for materials recovery. For example, in 2009, only 25 percent of TVs, computers, and cell phones that were ready for end-of-life management were actually collected for recycling. Cell phones were recycled at a rate of approximately 8 percent. Isn't that pitiful? We can do better than that right and maybe benefit ourselves too?
There are always ways that consumers can go green, protect the environment, reduce our carbon footprint, and at the same time benefit our bottom line. Here's one way that I love.
Think Your Old Clothes Are Only Good for Secondhand Use? Think Again
The Easy Way to Make a Difference by Recycling Your Old Clothes
This week I was recently introduced to an eco-friendly organization that really touched a chord with me. When recycled clothing gets a second life that can mean a lot of things and organizations like the for-profit USAgain.com is making it mean green in more than one way.
Most clothing collected by USAgain and other textile recyclers is reused in its original form as secondhand clothing, but what about the stuff that is just too worn out to be re-worn? Have you ever wondered where old clothes go to die? Well, the good news is that they are the new millennium sustainable gold and gain life everlasting in recycled products.

• With the hottest green car on the market, 2013 Fusion, Ford becomes first automaker to use fabrics made of recycled materials in vehicles sold around the world
Have you seen a ton of Ford Fusions out and about in your town lately? They seem to be the "it" car of the moment and for good reason. Ford Fusion is the first global vehicle program from any automaker to use seat fabric made from recycled material, with the potential to recycle enough plastic bottles and post-industrial waste to make 1.5 million yards of fabric annually. That’s equivalent to between 800,000 and 900,000 yards in North America when Fusion is in full production.
How Terra Cycle is Helping to Rebuild Sandy Hook Elementary
Terra Cycle Offers Partners Chance to Donate Points to Sandy Hook
On December 14, 2012, just three days before the Sandy Hook tragedy, Terra Cycle received their school's first shipment of juice pouches. As a new school brigade, you can just imagine the excitement at Sandy Hook among the kids, teachers and parents who helped to organize the brigade, in sending off their first shipment to Terra cycle.
To help heal the Sandy Hook school community, Terra Cycle is offering a chance for their brigade partners to donate a portion of their points to Sandy Hook to help them rebuild their school in a new location.
"We want to simply remind you that you still have the opportunity to help Sandy Hook Elementary. As we've said before, there is little that can be done to soften the effects of a tragedy so great, but we would like to offer this opportunity for you to help with the click of a button." - Terra CycleAlthough there is little that can be done to take away the remaining thoughts and pain of this tragedy, this point donation program will help to bring back that enthusiasm and good feeling gained through being a part of the Terra Cycle recycling program and will also help to offer hope. The point donation program is supported and approved by the Newtown, CT, School Superintendent and is a chance to re-establish the recycling goals wholeheartedly supported and encouraged by the school's former principal, and current students and staff.

Why the Landfill Harmonic Is Just What You Need to Make You Smile Today
I don't know about you, but back to work this week was a tough one. I think the entire country had a very hard time keeping the normal weekly routine when all any of us can think of is the families that are suffering in Newtown, Connecticut. Well I think we can all use a little bit of good news this week and the Landfill Harmonic is just what we all need.

Keep Calm and Refill On with Non Toxic AusPens!
My kids love to draw on our two white boards with dry erase markers but the smell is horrible and literally gives us all headaches. How to Be Green & Easily Manage Recycling in Your Home and Home Office for $5
Want to Know How To Be Green and Easily Manage Your Recycling at Home or in Your Home Office for Just $5?
I have been going crazy for the last few years in my house and home office trying to easily manage my recycling. Trying to keep my recycling separate from my trash, is obviously not rocket science so one would have thought that I would have found a solution years ago. But devising an easy system for managing recycling at home and in my home office, was just one of those things that I kept pushing to the back of my mind. Can you relate?
I even tried using boxes for recycling containers, but I could never find just the right sizes and they always looked trashy...no pun intended.
What I finally resorted to was just tossing my recycling on the floor in my home office and then at the end of each day, tossing it in the recycling bin in the garage. It was obviously messy and drove me crazy. Dealing with recycling for the rest of the house was even worse. It seemed that I always ended up digging through everyone's trash cans to pull out paper, and other items to be recycled, that had inadvertently been tossed in the trash bins. Not fun and not very effective.

Head of EPA Lisa Jackson's Top Green Tip to Get Our Economy Moving
I have to say that although I am not a huge fan of the EPA, I am a fan of its leader, Lisa Jackson. Each time I hear her speak I find a new respect for the fact that she comes off as genuine and caring. A mother of two, I am sure she must share some of the same concerns that I have about our planet's future. I believe she is doing her best to make our country and its people healthier so when she says that the most important thing we can do for our environment is to recycle, I am on it. Are you?
In 2010, Americans generated about 250 million tons of trash and recycled and composted nearly 85 million tons of it. That may sound pretty good but it only equates to a 34% recycling rate. Jackson says that if we could get our recycling rate up above 80% we could really make an impact on reducing energy use, increasing air quality and creating jobs.
So let's get that good old US economy moving again and recycle and compost our way back into the good times! Sure sounds like a good idea to me. It certainly sounds like a better plan than wasting another $800 billion on a stimulus package or spending $300-400 billion on a job's plan from the same guy who wasted the first $800 billion. You in?

Each bag has a Velcro closure that closes tightly but the tabs on the top make it easy for even my 6 year old to pull open. They wash up really nicely but I don't toss them in the dryer because I have found that Velcro always gets fuzzy when it hits the dryer. I bought 2 packs of 5 bags but wish I would have purchased twice that. Although, amazingly, all of my mothering Mother bags have made their way back to me after school in my girl's lunch boxes, I could really use more! I could use these for coffee beans and any other smaller bulk items I buy. Plus, mothering Mother has an entire line of bags that help us all reduce and reuse and save green.
Check out these other designs from mothering Mother...

How Commercial Facilities Go Green by Cutting Costs and Creating Revenue Through Recycling
I am really excited to be a part of greening our local high school and encouraged by the support we have already encountered along the way. One of the things we plan to do is make use of the Paper Retriever Recycling program, TerraCycle and Greenopolis to easily recycle paper, plastic and everything else from toothbrushes to chip bags from our school and local community.

Nonetheless, I always try to do at least one really fun thing with my girls each day they are on break. Yesterday it was heading to the theater to watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid and today we got crafty. Now I am so NOT crafty, but my kids are. In fact, my sweet mom gave me a sewing machine 5 years ago which was still in the box...until today when we used it to make an adorable, and Eco-friendly Easter Bunny change purse out of recycled juice bags.
